Dear Earth… From Your Friends in Room 5 (Introduction)

  1. Ask students, If you were to write a letter to Earth, what would you want to say? Would you have any questions? Would there be anything you’d like to share with Earth?  Record answers.
  2. Read the story, Dear Earth… From Your Friends in Room 5.     Virtual reading by author, Erin Dealey


  1. After reading the story, revisit student answers from the introduction comparing with the suggestions in the story.
  2. Next, ask students to think about what they would say if they were writing to Water. Tell students, Imagine that Water could hear you. If you were able to correspond with Water, what would you say? What questions would you have? What could you tell Water that would reassure them that you care?
  3. Have students discuss with a partner or in a small group and then take up answers as a class.

Follow Up Activities:

  1. Write a class letter to Water.
