  2. Read the story, Dear Earth… From Your Friends in Room 5Virtual reading by author, Erin Dealey

Lesson:

  1. Tell students, We just read about a class corresponding with Earth sharing all of the good things they’re doing to help Earth. Now, we’re going to imagine that we can correspond with Water.
  2. Handout the Letter Writing template (see attachment) and have students write a letter to Water telling about all the things they’re doing to help Water.
  3. You may want to first have students brainstorm ideas (or revisit the ideas students had from the previous lesson) before beginning their letters. For young classes, write a class letter as a shared writing activity.
  4. Share letters by having students read their letters aloud, or display for others to enjoy (create a bulletin board or class book).

Follow Up Activities:

  1. Write a monthly class letter to Water.
  2. Have students exchange letters and then answer each other’s letters in the voice of Water.
  3. Share your class letters on author, Erin Dealey’s Classroom Blog Takeovers found on her website.
