3 - Plastic Harm to Water
Resources Needed:
- Image of Cardboard Giant Plastic Tap by Benjamin Von Wong (see bottom of lesson plan)
- Introductory/Instructional Video by Benjamin Von Wong
- Downloadable Cardboard template of Von Wong’s “Giant Plastic Tap” designed by Wintercroft in collaboration with Students Rebuild
- Materials: glue stick, hot glue gun, scissors, box cutter (best for cutting cardboard), brown paper tape, corrugated cardboard (recycled delivery boxes work well), long metal wire (to make a needle), pliers, fishing line, metal hole puncher (or a drill that can make holes in plastic, tall light stand (more detail is given when you download the template)
Introduction:
- This lesson works well following the Giant Plastic Tap (Introduction) lesson.
- Tell students they are now going to work together to build a giant plastic tap!
Lesson:
- Follow the directions in the Downloadable Cardboard template of Von Wong’s “Giant Plastic Tap” designed by Wintercroft in collaboration with Students Rebuild
Follow Up Activities:
- Display the class Giant Plastic Tap in a prominent location in your school.
- Engage other classes by providing a space for students to post their reactions.
- Share photos of your Giant Plastic Tap on social media to do your part in raising awareness of the harm plastics cause, remembering to tag: @bluewaterschoolsnetwork, @wintercroft, @vonwong, @studentsrebuild, @solgaardnyx and use the hashtags: #StudentsRebuld, #ExtraordinaryEarthProject, #GiantPlasticTap, #TurnOffThePlasticTap
