The Story of Bottled Water (Visual Arts)

Resources Needed:

  1. Video: The Story of Bottled Water by The Story of Stuff
  2. Paper, black markers

Introduction:

  • Following the lesson, The Story of Bottled Water (Introduction), ask /tell students, After watching the video, it’s now your turn to tell the story of bottled water. Think about the four main ideas that took you by surprise or that you learned. Have students share their ideas with a partner, small group or the class.

Lesson:

  1. Tell students they are now going to retell the story of bottled water in four parts.
  2. Hand out papers that can be folded into four equal parts. Tell students, Your challenge is to retell the story of bottled water using what you feel are the four biggest ideas/takeaways from the video. In each box you can write one sentence, draw a picture or do both to represent each main idea.
  3. Have students use a black marker to outline their illustrations.
  4. Display the finished work to share the students’ messages.

Follow Up Activities:

  1. Students may want to create their own animation in the style of the video or retell the story in a different medium.
