Resources Needed:
This lesson was developed and contributed by Holly Little.
This lesson is best following the lesson, Drop: An Adventure Through The Water Cycle (Introduction) when students have an understanding of the water cycle and states of water.
1. Book: Drop: An Adventure Through The Water Cycle (Introduction) by Emily Kate Moon
2. A variety of building materials such as Lego, blocks, craft materials, etc.
Introduction:
1. Ask students to tell you what they remember about Drop’s journey. Ask students if they can name the different parts of the water cycle and different states of water.
Lesson:
1. Ask students to think about one of Drop’s states/adventures (such as running down a mountain).
2. Ask students to build a model of the state/adventure they chose. Students can build with items such as Lego or blocks, or out of craft materials.
3. Tell students they also need to include Drop in their build. She has to be visible somewhere on their model.
4. Students can label their model with words that demonstrate their knowledge of water (e.g. labeling Drop’s adventure down the mountain as melting or runoff).
Follow Up Activities:
1. Have students go on a gallery walk to view the rest of the class’ models. As a class, put Drop’s adventures in order (to match the book).
