GRADE LEVEL Primary (K-3) / Junior (4-6) / Intermediate (7-8)
PLEDGE 1 - Protection of Water, 2 - Human Right to Water

Resources Needed:

  1. Fortunately by Remy Charlip
  2. Picture book template (see attachment)

  1. Following the lesson, Fortunately (Introduction), tell students they are now going to write their own patterned picture book, based on Fortunately by Remy Charlip.
  2. This can also be done as a class book where each student creates their own two pages (Fortunately… Unfortunately).

  1. Have students use the ways we are fortunate regarding water, along with the unfortunate consequences, to create their own patterned picture book in the style of  Fortunately by Remy Charlip. For younger students, you may want to use the patterned templates attached.
  2. Have students illustrate each fortunate and unfortunate point.

Follow Up Activities:

  1. Share finished books with other classes to raise awareness of water issues.
  2. Display books on a bulletin board for the rest of the school to learn.
